The Hospital, Our Other Home This Year....

Callie has been fighting a nasty sickness that won't go away. Since just after Easter she has been sick. She started with just cold like symptoms. Brooke had the same thing and was completely fine within about a week. Callie wasn't so lucky. She woke up on May 5th at about 1 in the morning and was burning up, her whole body shaking, and just crying cause she felt so lousy. I took her to the ER and they diagnosed her with pneumonia. She did antibiotics for 10 days. She was totally better. I took her in for a follow up visit  on the 17th and she was great. Lungs sounded clear, no fever, everything was great.

The next morning she wakes up fevering again and throwing up. She went and did a strep test which was negative but Dr. Oveson put her on another antibiotic anyway. She was so funny with the strep test. She had to do one in the ER so she knew what was coming. The little stinker was asleep when we went in for it....or so I thought. She was totally faking asleep so she wouldn't have to do it. I was like Callie you have to wake up and she wouldn't. All the sudden I'm like "Callie are you faking?" and they little monster pops her eyes open. If you've ever seen Callie fake sleep, she's great at it! You cannot tell. So funny!

Thursday night she was going back and forth between fever and cold sweat. Friday morning same thing. I went to work and mentioned to Molly, Dr. Oveson's nurse, that she was still fevering and they thought I better bring her in for a quick chest x-ray and lab work. They call us back to see Dr. Oveson and he tells me that it's really bad pneumonia and we need to admit her to the hospital right then. I was completely shocked. She was basically dancing around the room as he is telling me how she's so sick she needs to be admitted??? So we took her down to the hospital and they started her on IV antibiotics. She literally was doing rollovers in her hospital bed... you would never think she should be in the hospital. So funny! She spent 2 nights in there and came home this afternoon. She was the funniest little patient. She was all over the place. Not a normal sick kid. She was very demanding too. I asked the nurse if she could get a sprite please and little Cal looks over her shoulder and is like "with ice!!" I was shocked. I'm like use your manners. She said she likes being in the hospital cause people bring her presents. She had to miss her dance review Friday night but it doesn't seem to bother her at all. She could care less. Seth spent the nights with her and I spent the days. And Grandpa Terry lucked out and spent the Dance Review with her. This morning before she left the nurse came in and took her vitals and drew blood and she slept right through it. She's a tough little bugger. She's still doing good. You never would have known she was sick, I wasn't even going to take her in. Good thing Molly asked about her.  Now she will do another round of oral antibiotics and then a repeat x-ray Thursday or Friday to make sure her lungs are clearing up.

Seth and I think we have had more than our share of hospitals for this year. We prefer our own beds and all our kids home with us. So far this year I spent almost a week, Bowdee spent 31 days, and Callie spent 3 days as inpatients, and it's only May. I think we should be done for the year! (knock on wood). Thanks to all our family for all your help. We appreciate it more than you know and love that we can always count on our family. Also thanks for spoiling Callie, she loved it so much I wasn't totally sure she wanted to come home.
